Bagging third prize fore screen play in this year’s Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for literature is Carlo Arejola.

Carlo Arejola is one of the trainers in the English Proficiency Program initiated by Gov. Lray Villafuerte Jr. through the Camarines Sur Information Technology Center. In the previous years, he had made several attempts and grateful that he made it this time.

Arejola, the prime mover of the Bicol-based recognition Premio Tomas Arejola para sa Literaturang Bikol, said the official notice of his winning was returned to sender so that until the last hour the secretariat of the Palanca Award called him up to confirm his attendance on the awards rites.

A 70-page screen play entitled “Ang Mundo ay Iisa at Marami” which according to him is a story of two protagonists leading separate lives but having parallel struggles in life was his entry to this year’s Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for literature.

Arejola said he started writing poetry and dabbed in theater arts way back in his college years and later learned to write stage plays. Several of his poems won awards and published in national papers.

The screen play writer confessed that the Palanca Award has boosted his morale and injected in him renewed vigor in creating literary pieces which he planned to compile into a book to be published December this year.

Arejola also said the award has also given him greater determination to work harder to enhance the project of the Tomas Arejola Foundation project of encouraging the writers to create original works in Bicol literature. (source-Juan Escandor Jr. of The Bikol Reporter)
